On behalf of Dr. David Askenazi -
Dear Members of the Neonatal Kidney Collaborative,

In 2013, following an NIH-sponsored workshop on neonatal acute kidney injury, it became clear to many of us that enhanced collaboration was essential to advancing the neonatal kidney field. As I reflect on the incredible progress of the Neonatal Kidney Collaborative over the past 12 years, I am deeply proud of what we have built. Together, we have created a clear mission, vision, and values, while setting ambitious goals for the future.

Our strategies and initiatives have been guided by the tireless efforts of an exceptional group of leaders. I am especially grateful to the NKC board and the co-chairs of our committees, whose countless hours of dedication have been instrumental in the success of our organization. While the list of contributors is too long to name in this short message, please know how indebted I am to each of you for your unwavering commitment.

As we look toward 2025, I am confident in saying that we are now the preeminent source for knowledge, research, and advocacy for neonates with kidney disease. Yet, our task is far from over. There is still so much to do as we work to understand neonatal kidney disease, evaluate therapies, and develop tools that will lead to the best possible outcomes. We must continue to advocate for high-quality and compassionate care for these vulnerable children and their families.

Now, it is time to pass the torch. Effective January 1st, Jennifer Charlton became the NKC Board President. She has been an incredible collaborator, leader, and vital part of this organization. Her deep understanding of our community, dedication for patients, leadership skills, and her unwavering passion for our mission make her the perfect person to guide us into the future. Jennifer will bring the necessary grace, expertise, and vision to propel our organization forward. I have extreme confidence that under her leadership, we will continue to cultivate the next generation of leaders, engage students, providers, and families, and further strengthen our community's impact.

Serving as the president of the Neonatal Kidney Collaborative has been an incredible honor and one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Now, I step into the role of past-president on the executive committee alongside David Selewski and Matt Harer. I will continue to support Jennifer's efforts and remain an active member of this incredible organization.

Happy New Year. I wish you and your family a bright and successful 2025!

With gratitude,
David Askenazi MD, MSPH
Past-President of the Neonatal Kidney Collaborative
